Why Bangladesh victory is significant in terms of test cricket?

Bangladesh's international cricket was started from the year 1976-77, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) came to play against the Bangladesh national side, the unofficial test was played at Dhaka on 4 January 1977.

In the later years Bangladesh played against teams like Srilanka, Deccan blues and the MCC.

Their biggest moment come when they won the ICC trophy in 1997 (which was the Cricket World Cup qualification tournament for all the ICC associate member nation) and then went on to play in the 1999 Cricket World Cup, although they were knocked out in the group league stages, but they were the team that has defeated Pakistan who were the runners up of the tournament.

Bangladesh were granted full ICC membership in the year 2000 and they played their inaugural match against neighbours India.

Bangladesh biggest achievement in international cricket was so far the win of Under-19 Cricket World Cup win of 2019, but the recent win against World test champions New Zealand can be also considered as a biggest achievement for the senior team considering that they defeated Kiwis at their home.

 Off-late Bangladesh proved themselves as a formidable side in limited overs format and they can defeat any team in a given day, its also becoming evident that they're a tough team to beat in their backyard, however their potential as a test team still comes under doubt but its also need to be aware of that they hardly get to play test matches when they tour overseas, may be that could be another reason that they're unable to showcase their abilities in foreign conditions and especially in red ball cricket.

However, the recent success against New Zealand can be seen as an opportunity that Bangladesh can also improved their performance in the test format as well and become another team from Asia that can give best performance and bring fight to the opposition outside Sub-continent.

Bangladesh's Major issue

The major issue due to which Bangladesh cricket sometimes doesn't get the success they deserve is consistency, their performance isn't as consistent as it should be specially in red ball cricket, but it can also be due to the lack of overseas tours, the lesser they get opportunity to play test cricket outside Asia, the more their ability to play test cricket willl be doubted. 

However with the World Test Championship, I believe that the Bangladeshi Tigers will get more opportunity to play test matches outside their home conditions which will ultimately improve their test match performance.

The recent Bangladesh - New zealand test series which ended up as a draw can be considered as a moral victory for Bangladesh, it will bolster their beliefs and will make them realize that they can indeed get succces outside sub continent.

What will happen if Bangladesh can continue their merry ways in Test Cricket 

It will mean that their will be another brilliant side from Asia, after - India, Pakistan and Sri lanka which can perform well and win matches outside Asia, it will make test cricket also more interesting, it will make World test championship interesting  and we cricket fans can see some interesting test cricket battles in the future.

Let's hope that Bangladesh can continue to do well in test cricket and we get to see very interesting test matches in future.
